Let’s work together with The Prairie Enthusiasts to remove invasive species at Billings-Tomfohr Conservation Area in Red Wing!
We will spend the afternoon cutting and stump-treating invasive woody plants, such as buckthorn, oriental bittersweet, red cedar, black locust, and sumac, and constructing firebreaks for planned fall burns.
Space is limited due to a limited supply of tools. Please sign up online so we know how many people to expect. That said, walk-ins are also welcome.
What to Expect
Removing invasive species can be intense, hands-on, and immediately rewarding work. No previous experience is necessary; training will be provided. The climb to the top of the bluff can feel strenuous and is not handicap accessible. We recommend this event only for individuals ages 16+.
What you should bring: wear long pants, sturdy work shoes, a hat, work gloves (optional), loppers (some will be available), a reusable water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and your enthusiasm :)
What we’ll provide: an assortment of light snacks, water (in a cooler jug), gloves, and a few sets of loppers.
