First featured at our Downstream Environmental Film Festival earlier this year, the film returns for Latine Day at the State Fair. Stick around after the film for a chance to connect with local organizations working in environmental justice, sustainability, and energy equity, including partners like COPAL and Unidos MN.
More About the Film
Agua Vivas de Faribault is a documentary short film (20 min) that tells the story of Alexander Faribault through the enduring presence of the Straight and Cannon Rivers. The film follows the rivers as steady witnesses to generations of life along their banks. Narrated by Johan Alexander Riera Piñero, it is the first Spanish-language telling of Alexander Faribault’s story.
Alexander Faribault was the founder of the City of Faribault and a key figure in the founding of Rice County. As a mixed-race man, he sought to create a multicultural community where his European and Dakota relatives could live side by side. He helped shape the course of Minnesota history, and his legacy was deeply shaped by the changes he helped set in motion.
The film was directed and written by Sam Temple, with Claudia Garcia serving as executive producer and lead for Spanish translation and cultural consultation. It features research and additional writing by Logan Ledman, original illustrations by Piper Mohring, and an original musical score by Sam Dwyer. Agua Vivas de Faribault reflects more than ten years of research, storytelling, and collaboration centered on Alexander Faribault’s memory.
The film was commissioned by Clean River Partners, with support from an MPCA grant.
Who This Is For
The film is presented in Spanish with English subtitles. All are welcome, but it may be difficult for children to follow along.
