Volunteer Event: Restoration at Hay Creek Hills Farm

  • Hay Creek Hills Farm 30817 296th Street Way Red Wing, Minnesota, 55066 United States (map)

Clean River Partners is partnering with Wendy Johnson to continue work restoring the remnant bluff prairie and oak savanna habitats of the EQIP (Environmental Quality Improvement Program) on the Hay Creek Hills Farm property, just outside of Red Wing.

This is a chainsaw work day! Bring your chainsaw and proper PPE to cut larger buckthorn, aspen and elm. If you don't have a chainsaw, bring your hand pruners and cut the smaller bittersweet stems.

What to Expect

There will be a half mile hike to the work site with some work on level ground and some a steep incline. A Gator will drive equipment (chainsaws, extra water, Gatorade, cookies, etc.) to the site. Plan on carrying personal gear in a backpack.

*Note: Use the restroom as near to arrival as possible, but no worries. A bucket toilet will be available on site with toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

  • What you should bring: wear long sleeve shirt and pants, sturdy work boots, a hat, work gloves, protective eyewear, a tool (hand pruners, small hand saw, and/or a chainsaw with oil and gas), a reusable water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and your enthusiasm :)

  • What we’ll provide: an assortment of light snacks, water (in a cooler jug), and some gloves.

Accessibility

  • Non-accessible parking on uneven terrain

  • Non-accessible bathrooms available

  • Taking place outdoors

    • This will be hands-on work walking over uneven terrain in high grasses and plants.
