Jennifer Tonko is the Executive Director of Clean River Partners. Her work focuses on building collaborations, providing people with education and reflection opportunities, and building community capacity for systemic change. Under her leadership, Clean River Partners is working on questions such as “What is the future of agriculture in southeastern Minnesota?” “How can communities work together to protect and maintain natural landscapes?” and “What are the most important environmental concerns that the varied communities in our watershed have, and who is best positioned to address them?”

Tonko’s previous work was with the Minnesota Humanities Center, where she led the We Are Water MN program, a partnership of seven statewide organizations that builds people’s relationships with and responsibilities to water, and the Why Treaties Matter program, which centers Indigenous perspectives on treaty law and Native sovereignty.
